Less than 10% of US citizens have passports, with even less than that amount ever having been out of the US, yet if Yahoo! Answers is anything to go by they are well informed about International Affairs. Are they really just pretending to know?

I have seen US TV. International news takes up a tiny percentage. If US citizens get their information from TV and newspapers controlled by Murdoch and suchlike, what chance do we all have? Watch BBC world news instead of programmes with a financial agenda such as Fox - you might just learn something about the world that does not have a slant on it from the owner.

GOing to other countries has no bearing on wether you are informed about international affairs. People here read and have access to many other forms of information Satellite tv radios newspapers magazines, friends and relatives in other countries. So don't be a snob, just because you may have a passport and can take a train to another country in Europe doesn't make you any better in formed about international affairs than Americans.

Some may be "pretending to know", but the majority of people can hear and understand a news broadcast, read and understand a newpaper article, see and understand images on the TV, in magazines, and in newspapers.
Why ask a condescending question like this?

I know the world, believe me. I've met people. I have dual citizenships, double passports, millions of artifacts from different countries, and a heck of a lot of memories to recount upon. Some of our people are lying, but I assure you now that I can post you pictures of our trips as a family if you're really that desperate.

You don't have to travel abroad to know about other countries.
Americans are exceptionally bad in this area though. Probably because so much of world affairs revolve around America. They don't need to be outward looking to the same extent as Europeans.

i watch bbc, read papers too. I think we get a preety good news account on other places, so we can discuss it, also you need to read in between the words and you will find the truth.

It is scary that so many people are willing to have strong opinions about subject areas so far out of there range of knowledge. Nothing wrong with keeping your mouth shut if you don't know.
