I think she just meant that you shouldn't get married too early in your life. Maybe she regrets not doing things she wanted and now blames it on marriage... Do everything you want and you will still be able to do lots of things after your married and besides, I think you will have even more fun!!!

I don't know that I'd use that term. OK, sacrifice is part of marriage because marriage is a 60-40 or 70-30 proposition. You give more than you take to have a sucessful marriage. First of all marriage is about love and commitment and the only thing you are sacrificing is your self to become part of a partnership. Marriage allows you to partner with your spouse to achieve goals and dreams that you cannot accomplish on your own and when your goals and dreams are accomplished and both of you can share in your success.
The sacrifice in marriage may come from taking care of your spouse when they are sick, helping them acheive their educational and career goals, sharing the responsibilities of the children, struggling through a financial challenge, and facing a varieties of disappointments but the benefits of sacrifice are a happy home, a contented life together, love and appreciation of each other, and many, many other things that it would take years of life experience to explain.
If marriage is a sacrifice for the rest of my life, I am more than willing to sacrifice for the joy, satisfaction, and love I've found in my marriage.
PS You can too

You sacrifice being single. I've been married for thirteen years and I have a stepson and two sons. Wouldn't go back to being single for anything. Being married and being a parent are the best things that can happen to you. Sure, there are down times but that's all part of life. Why do you think marriage has lasted for thousands (or more) of years?

your mom hasn't a clue -
marriage is a partnership
sorry she is sorry she is married
marriage is/can be wonderful lifetime friendship
i know many marriages that last years and both people still love each other
to succeed, people (both people) need to work on their marriage every day - its like a garden or a yard - if you don't pay attention to it, it just grows weeds
don't let her scare you - but date for a long time before sex and make sure you picked the right man - not just the fun one - fun wears off

You are going to sacrifice the rest of your life to that person. You are giving your life away for that one person you love and you are with him/her forever. So choose wisely.

i've never been married myself, but it might mean that you make a commitment by devoting your life to another person, with the obligation to look after her and respect her and of course spend the rest of your life with her.

no...yes, you live for him and he for you...you both end up the winners! I have been married for 15 years and that is the secret! You make sure his needs are met, and he makes sure yours are...that ends up with 2 very happy people!
