capital punishment is the best deterrent. The world is overpopulated anyways.
throw out dna testing, before that there was a judge, circuit judge. They locked up the criminal or the accused in the icehouse until the judge could come around.

Stop letting prisoners on death row get married.
Execute quickly, punishments are more effective when handed down and carried out quickly.

Make crominals do all roadwork, and garbage pickup and other dirty rotten scumbag jobs. They could work under the criminals that have committed blue collar crimes and They could work under the politicians who need to serve out a sentence for whatever they have done this year.

stop treating the crimminals like victims. if people have done something wrong then they should be punished, i'm not sayin that prison is a nice place, but people can be quite comfortable there, and very rarely serve there full sentance.

People often make excuses for there behavour, such as 'they had a bad upbringing' or 'they were bullied as a child'. Everybody has a choice, obide by the law or break it. those who break it should be treated harshly to deter them from re-ofending

i also think that education in prison is a good idea. but as well as being taught english, maths etc, they should learn about right and wrong, concequences and the way there behavour affects others.

Build more prisons. Enforce sentences. 5 years is 5 years, many people are not aware that criminals never serve the full sentence regardless of good behaviour or any other jail clearing incentives.

Prison may not "reform" criminals but at least they can't burgle houses or stab anyone whist they are inside.

It would stop the police having to concentrate on the same criminals night after night, week after week after they get continually released on bail or curfew orders or ankle tags or community rehabilitation or drug testing orders or absolute discharges or meaningless fines of £3 a week for 87 years.

If witnesses had faith that criminals actually went to prison they may have more confidence to turn up and give evidence so that the offender may indeed go to prison, instead of going back to the witnesses' house and setting it on fire or whatever.

My, my thre seem to be a lot of uninformed people around. What really lowers crime rates is a high possibility to be caught, not punishment. The most important measures to take would be to help more people out of poverty instead of implementing politics that increase poverty, de-criminalize drugs, improve education. The most important one, I think is to de-criminalize drugs. An awful lot of our crime statistics comes from people who rob to feed their habit, or dealer gangs fighting each other.

i did a report in college on this very subject. look into singapores government. they dont take anything from anybody. but you can walk down the street at midnight and not get mugged. lashing with the cane in public...isnt that what happened years ago to the american kid that vandalized a van?
