I say the government should enact stiffer penalties for crimes. No more slaps on the wrists, have harsher sentences, administered fairly. And when these criminals go to prison, dont make it like a motel inside. I toured a federal and state prison when i was in college...and i was amazed! They have television rooms, recreation rooms, vending machines...make these people work. There are several projects on the side of the road that prisoners could do. Make them grow their own foods (fruits and vegetables) and raise livestock too. This should cut down on costs of housing inmates.
The bottom line is that the amenities that prisoners commonly enjoy are far nicer than what many hardworking citizens have in their homes. Give them food, give them water, give them a clean airconditioned place to sleep...but dont make it a vacation for them.

I think crime could be vastly reduced if we had more equality in society. This would come about easiest with financial equality. A legal minimum wage helps towards this, but how many of us could cope and run our homes and bring up our families while earning the legal minimum wage - it's nigh on impossible - it's poverty level. However, having a legal maximum wage would make a huge difference and the minimum wage would then be easier to raise to a more acceptable level.

No Policies whatsoever all over the world can prevent crime, as there is no perfect system, always can be exposed to bugs and viruses, also human beings are not perfect.

introduce tough national service for all 16 year olds
public beatings for cases such as rape, child molestation etc
send the prison population into hard labour so its not such an easy ride
