Hi Maddy, no I don't think marriage will ever become obsolete. The reason I do not think this is due to our innate need to Cleve unto a partner. This is a strong internal drive which has been with humans from the dawn we arrived. I think in one hundred or a hundred and fifty years we will have come to a more peaceful place with marriages. Right now we are in a turbulent period, one with great deal of change with both sexes confused regarding their roles. With the emancipation of women great upheaval is occurring. We will get through this and reach a place of peace and understanding or our roles. Deep inside us we all know what those roles are. We are on the right tract, yet must continue down the road of growth in equality to reach the end result. I foresee a great upswing in good, solid, loving, committed marriages, in which both always put the others needs first, and in doing so both aways get their needs met. We just need to get through this time of turmoil and distress.
I wish I had more time to write about this but I must get back to work. Thanks for the great questions and in inviting me to answer them. I wish you a great day Maddy. Serenity

Have you been out to the Mid west??? It's like children of the corn out there.... I think they are entering the 80's right now.
And the fact that George Bush is our president cause he loves Jesus just shows that the average person isn't too bright and doesn't really grasp the whole picture. I think their are soo many Jesus loving Conservatives out there that it will take more then a 150 years for them to drop their abortion signs and rethink things like marriage. I honestly think that American society is going back in time... not forward.

I think the concept of marriage is obsolete now.
The concept of being with someone for the rest of your life will always be around. From generation to generation, we instill this concept into our children by subjecting them to Disney and John Hughes films. Plus we're human, we love to love. But what does love have to do with marriage?
Marriage itself may evolve in order to stick around, but you can see how it has lost it's meaning (in western soceity anyway). I say, let's get rid of 'til death do us part' and replace it with 'until you fall in love with someone else and ask all of the people on Yahoo answers what you should do about it'.

I don't think it will obsolete--practically non existent maybe. There will always be those few who believe in the fairy tale but the rest of the world will be so wrapped up in their cell phones, careers, and handheld computersthat they will barely have time to masturbate much less nurture a relationship enough to consider marriage. Its sad really.....what is this world coming to?

It seems like our society is on the way to that, doesn't it? Marriage isn't valued as much and the divorce rate is so high, many people are opting not to get married at all (I am one of those, well, scared to I guess). Its just too easy and acceptable nowadays to just get a divorce than to work things out. People will just get lazier in their relationships, thus causing marriage to become a thing of the past

I really don't know what to think, I'm a little jaded, in the middle of divorce, but it would be nice to think that it won't be.
