The best way for the 7th Cavalry Regiment to have survived that battle was not to get in it in the first place, and not to have divided his forces several times. However, since you didn't permit a strategic alternative, and rather only allowed the choice of an additional weapon, I presume you want a weapon that would have turned the tide of the battle.
Just so you know "Paulisfree" I am no more racist than anyone else, and Lacota or not, you were not alive during this period of history, so don't call some kid with an a question racist. You sound to be the racist one. That is the trouble with some people, they would rather live in the past and feel sorry for themselves and call people racist rather than take what they have, namely "Potential" and maximize it in their life. Accepting Jesus isn't a bad idea either. But I digress.
The weapon of choice for that situation would have been a "Radio" with which to call in the other Squadrons and coordinate an attack, surrounding the tribes and demanding their surrender.
That battle was the last victory of the desperate and unfortunate plight of the Native Americans. After that, things didn't go so well. It is our History, but it is nothing more than that - history, and it doesn't affect us today, except that we should remember that all people have the right to exist and live freely. But we are in no way "obligated" to make reparations for the behavior of those who came before us. We are responsible only for our own actions, and it is by those we will be judged.

Hey paulisfree... he didn't say who to use it on... I used to pretend (whenI was very little) that I figured out how to go back in tibe and warn all the tribes to fight from the first... Custer got what he deserved. I would personally have fought with the Indians..and i think...oh a rotary barrel heavy gun off of an A-10 warthog might be cool.
