Does one group (or the majority) have to oppose another group (or the minority) in order to collect votes?

I forgot to mention that the issue of abortion and birth control is another control mechanism over women and their reproductive rights and everything else in general.

The current administration, under the evil genius of Karl Rove, has been very successful in the politics of fear. They scare people into supporting them by talking about how evil will take over if we don't go get it first. Pre-emptive war? Think about that one...

Isn't it odd that a land that favors the underdog is bashing said underdog?? Yes America always has to insult the minority, or else we would have peace, and God knows we can't have that. First it was slaves and women, which went on for over 100 years, then it was blacks being unable to vote, women being unable to vote. Immigrants from other countries were oppressed here, then WWII came and we put Asian-Americans in camps. Next we went back to women, then abortion became a hot button issue, then AIDS reared its ugly head and took the focus to the GLBT community, which is still being oppressed today.

I think it is the same motive as the bully on the playground...fear of being inadequate and wanting to appear tougher than you really are.

It would seem so, wouldn't it. How else can we prove we're better than everyone else?

Seriously though, I think it's a control tactic. Our media, government, etc. use fear as a way of keeping us in check. Fear that the middle eastern family that moved in down the street are terrorists, fear that the gay neighbor will try to get married and convert your children, it all comes from the same place. By putting down groups who "can't fight back" (not effectively anyway, not yet), the government can put up a false front of "we care about you and are watching out for your safety". The problem is that no one bothers to think for themeslves and they buy into that crap. I'm gay and trust me, I don't want to molest, convert, or brainwash your children.

Furthermore, aren't there more important issues to worry about these days than whether two people who love each other want to get married? I hate Bush for saying this is a Christian nation and we were founded on Christian values. Aren't we a nation founded on "liberty and justice for all"?? And don't true "Christian values" include "love thy neighbor"?

If we worried less about everyone else and more on ourselves, our families, and how we're living our own lives, I think this country would have fewer problems. The breakdown of "family values" has nothing to do with gay people getting married. Divorce rates are up in the 60% range and it's the heterosexuals who have made a mockery of the "sacred institution of marriage", not us.

Wake up, America - it's the 21st century and these attitudes are SO 1850.

The more advanced countries just invent their own terror and then identify it where they want it to be, so they can then attack to achieve their agendas.

You cant fight terror it is an idea "the war on terror" is just buzz words to keep the sheeples happy at home and not thinking too much.

have a read get informed or just go back to the tv...most do anyway.

Many Americans find the government's message much more reassuring than the actual facts. The government's message is: "America is virtuous. Virtuous America was attacked by evil terrorists. America is protecting itself by going to war and overthrowing regimes that sponsor or give shelter to terrorists, erecting in their place democracies loyal to America."

Sugarcoated propaganda doesn't present Americans with the emotional and mental stress associated with the hard facts.

We are an easy target. The US will dump on us for a long time- but thankfully it's not as bad as in some countries. I keep reading where the leadersdo not believe there are any gay people in their country; that it's a western problem.
The fact that straight white xtian men have power over our reproductive choices is sickening!!!!!!!!!!! What happened to women's rights? We need MORE women in high political places.

Excuse me? Iraq is NOT the only counrty that breeds terrorists. In fact, Iraq was NOT a breeding ground until the U.S. made it so!!! Even the U.K. breeds terrorists - not immigrants, but second and third generation subjects of HM.

ALWAYS. The US always have to have an enemy to keep their people scared and controlled and focusing on that enemy instead of questioning the outside politics of their country.
It was the nazis, then the communists, then the UFOs, now the Muslims and liberals and the list will keep updating.

"America" doesn't, but many politicians have to focus attention away from themselves or you'd see them for the Madmen that they are and never vote for them.
Sadly the ones that are truly gullible will fall for the anti- gay, muslim, abortion, immigration claptrap every time.
