I'm sure it depends on how long the flight is. If it is an international flight, the flight crew will have all that information for you. When I flew to Singapore, they recommended about every 4 hours.

Elastic compression stockings do promote the flow of blood through the legs and also prevent venous distension. Especially designed graduated compression stockings are now available and will certainly assist. What is needed, however, is a simple device, which can be used by all passengers whilst remaining in their seats. Foot exercises also increase the amount of blood flowing through the legs but are not as effective as active exercise...These stockings are great for flying!
