I LOVE those li'l guys!!
Their innate stupidity knows no bounds, and the way they talk just crack me up!! Have you been reading some of the latest strips where they go to college? Comedy. Goldmine. LOL
I love them because their comments are always horrendously stupid, but hilarious. You sort of feel sorry for them, but sort of not. Mostly, you just laugh at their dire misfortune. Kinda like Wile E. Coyote from the Warner Brothers cartoons.
Apparently Stephen Pastis, the creator of the strip, gets asked all the time what nationality the crocs are. Everyone seems to think something different about their nationality, given the way they speak. Pastis maintains that they're not really any specific nationality. They're just really dumb.

My boys and I are very into Pearls Before Swine, especially the Crocs. Why? Because they are nasty, not too smart, single-minded and they speak with a very funny accent

I absolutely love "Pearls Before Swine" I don't think I can pick a favorite character though. I never can with anything. I think you need all to truly appreciate any of it.

I like them, but I'm not sure I'd say I'm 'into' them. I think that the artist has accurately portrayed what crocs would be like if they were a little less aggressive, and a little smarter. Have you ever sen a vicious pit bull pretend to be friendly, so that you'd be fooled into trying to pet it...? Like that. Fortunately for most of us, we are smart enough not to fall for it. (I do worry about children around those vicious things, though. Pit bulls strike me as 'mammalian crocs'.)
