Thought is the main thing to develop personality (any kind of personality)
By a thought, you sow a seed, it germinates into a desire which leads you to take an action.
Repeating the action grows into a habit.
A habit grows to be a character.
A character exhibited is seen as a personality

That depends on the large part in your life. Family can play a role in developing a personality. If you don't have a family, friends can be major influence in your childhood. If you don't have too many friends and end up with the past, then the past experiences make who you are today.
