i live in australia and i have been to some other countries and i have seen that people don't have any feeling of patriotism in them, where as the indians or the pakistanis are very very VERY patriotic towards their nation.
we are like:
-nation first
-do anything for the country
-die for the country
-fight for the country
-stay united
e.g. during the india vs pakistan cricket match- we get so involved in the game and want to win as if it is a war
but i have never seen any people from other countries be that patriotic. isn't it so wierd, what do you think???

The thing you call as patroitism is something more connected to revenge.
yes, it is a revenge. the indians and pakistanis are burning in the fire of fight:-
1) during the partition of india and pakistan is 1947.the muslim pakistanis started a bloody battle against the hindus that wanted to stay in pakistan.
2) tousands of innocent hindus were slayed, women raped and then slayed, people were quartered. those who wanted to go were also not spared. trains... full of dead bodies were sent to india.
3) indians too started the same merciless thing. thousands of muslims were slayed in the same manner. the two countries went in the communial war for years.
4) jammu and kashmir issue:- in 1947-1948 pakistan invaded a princely stae that was between pakistan and india. the prince of jammu and kashmir in anger signed a treaty under which, india would be a part of india. a big battle followed. most of the part was acquired. pakistan still holds some of the part of jammu and kashmir. this part is called "POK"-pakistan occupied kashmir.
5) pakistan made several futile in years, 1947,1950, 1972,1999. but indian army shot them out.
6) pakistan has also increased terrorism against india, which is increasing hatred against them (e.g. :- mumbai blast, parliament attack, jammu kashmir blasts- around 500 blast since 40 years )
do you understand me? it is something like revenge for blood. it is true that at that point of time indians and pakistanis develop a kind of patroitism inside themselves, but it is for this reason.
otherwise, most of the indians don't feel any thing about india.
india ranks 1st in corruption.
india also has communial war in parts of gujurat and ayodhya.
indians also have a like of western culture.
most of the well talented indians are loyal to foriegn country. uk alone has lakhs of indians, usa too. indians scientists are in plenty in nasa and other organisations,
i don't say indians are not patriotic. there are people, but in a few number. as india has low literacy rate, some even don't know what actually is india. the condition of pakistan is the worst.....at present it is going under a big communial war. it might slit into two in the coming years as baluchistan and pakistan.
indian patriotism is slowly increasing in some manner. we do have more love for our nation than others. and i hope we keep it increased....but it is not the same for pakistan.
iam not their rival. i want pakistan to be our friends but they are not stopping to trouble us. they have betrayed us twice...... not a chance again....until they ask for forgiveness.

Well ,each country has got its own way of being patriotic.We Indians being fanatic about cricket we show our fanatisism when sachin goes on to a field or when dhoni hits a century or when a stupid umpire gives our players out.
We love being patriotic.I belive Americans Australins and all have their own way of patriotism.Like a baseball match or a rugby matc.For us ,when we hear the national anthem being played at any event it feels like heaven,when and Indian makes it to the top in the intl arena it feels as though we are the best.
India is special and each Indian knows it deep down in his heart.There is somtething about it which makes it specialMaybe that is why we fell so patriotic

this patriotism actually started when india was britains colony...but after some time the indians wanted independence so they started fighting against them an thus frm the great revolt of 1857 to 14th aug 1947,indians were fighting shoulder to shoudler...the british made attempts to rouse the hindus against the muslims but all such plans of racism failed an the whole of indians were united against the british...this patriotism is handed down generation to generation...there is a lot more..jus read about it in books and it will inspire u..it really builds up ur patriotism...

patriotism as a sentiment is questionable today because the boundaries of the world r being redefined and a country seems a small and insignificant entity in the larger scheme of things. in the subcontinent, this redefinition also raises with it a lot of insecurity and that may to an extent explain the bursts of patriotic fervor every now and then - be it in the form of moral policing or singing of vande matram.

my mom is from pakastan and my dad is from india.
just last week we went to this convention in MD. i think it was to celebrate some independence thing. idk. but you should have seen everyone there! so many pakastan flags everywhere. i agree tottally with you. ive never seen anything like it. everyone was dancing and celebrating. i got a headache. the music was too loud and i hate indian music so i really wanted to leave. i was only impressed by the pony rides. i wish all americans can be like that

I think it is because the people from the sub-continent are emotional (euphimism for 'think with their heart')
