Don't be ridiculous.

1) There are tons of well-educated Indians in America making scads of money. That doesn't sound like slavery to me.

2) In the reality of a free market economy, decisions are made primarily based on cost (which is a shame because quality suffers) and you award business to the most cost-effective entity out there. If you bid low, you get the job. So if this bizarre question is supposed to be referring to work that has been outsourced from American companies to India due to lower costs, then the anser is again a resounding "No." The cost of living is less in India. Indian companies pay their employees less. Work that is labor intensive (i.e.: it takes a person to do a lot of the process) will then be more cost effective to have done in India.

Now, if Indian companies were chaining their employees to their call center desk and rewarding them only with subsistance-level food and beating them when they don't pick up the phone quickly enough -- well then, if that was the case then I would call it slavery. As it is, however, I just call it the free market.

What kind of question is that?

Of course Americans don't do that. Questions like this one only continue to widen the gap of understanding between the two cultures. I've worked with more than my share of Indians and I can say from personal experience that they are some of the most brilliant people I've had a chance to work with. Very hard working and knowledgeable. Due to the conditions in their own country to come here, they've got to work twice as hard to prove their capable, to me they have. So to assume that we keep them as slaves is asinine.

America allows immigrants into the country for cheap workers. It keeps the cost of labor down so business owners can make more profits. They treat them as slaves, in that, the business owners pay extremely low wages. Yes, they are treated as slaves because they can never make enough money and will allways have poor living conditions.

America most civilized country. They need India's contribution and services for its growth as a nation. And already Bill Clinton and present President acknowledged it. We, Indians have great faith and respect for America.
