My first son was named after his paternal grandfather - DIAMANTIS (means diamond)
and my second after my mother (the male version of Eleftheria) - ELEFTHERIOS (means freedom)
They are Greek names and this is a Greek custom. At first I didn't like the idea at all, but now I feel that it is a great honour to your parents and way of showing your apprieciation to them by naming your children after them.

I'm not naming my children on this type of forum....
But I named my children with names that do not date or age and are as beautiful today as they were many years ago and will continue to be in the future.
I also wanted to make sure that they were class-less names too, for example, their name would "fit" if they were a shop assistant or a brain surgeon.
I hate it when parents pick stupid, fashionable names that will either get their heads flushed down the toilets in school or guaranteed no employment when they go for interview... I kid you not, but I've been interviewing most of the day... and a grown man had the name Blade Thomas.... now... this will sound bad, but I didn't even read the rest of his CV.

I just really liked each name we picked out, and we decided on them while I was pregnant, but our daughter's name, and she is our only girl, we picked out before we ever got pregnant with our first child! We always said if we had a girl, we would name her Isabella and call her Bella for short because it means Beautiful in Italian. Well, two years ago and three boys later, we got out girl! And she just looked like what I always pictured she would, so we named her Isabella! Ironically, my husband is in the Military and we got order's to Italy while I was pregnant with her, and we moved here when she was five months old. She is often called "Bella" by the Italians before they know that is even her name.

We had two choices for my daughter, depending on what she looked like when she arrived! We definitely made the right choice, particularly as her best friend has the other name. Her middle name is the name of my grandmother. My son is named after his father, grandfather and two of his great grandfathers. Boring, I know, but it's a good, strong name. His middle name is my father's name. Luckily, they both like their names. I hated mine, and still do.

The names we chose were traditional and Scottish and had some dignity to them. So many names people are using now are made-up, some of them are so babyish you wouldn't wish them on the cat! (Mostly from slushy TV programmes I think!)

My oldest boy was named after my father, because we have a very close relationship and I wanted to show my love and respect for him.
My daughter was supposed to be named something different, a name her father picked out, but he left us while I was pregnant. So I changed it right after she was born. Ironically...he had a daughter born right after her with another woman, and used the same name he picked for our daughter.
And my baby boy was named after his father who's name was from the bible.

I named him Thabang (be grateful) because by that time I was still young and my parents were angry with my pregnancy without being married.
