First let's define what they have in common. They are both operating systems and operating systems control everything that your computers do.
They differ greatly. Windows xp is the latest version of the Windows operating system and comes with loads of other priograms to help you out like word processors, email, graphics, sound etc. You must purchase Windows if you want that system.
Unix is free. That is most renditions are free, but not as expensive as Windows. Unix does not come with all the supporting programs as Windows and requires lots of computer knowledge for the user - that's you.
There is more to it than this of course, but the main point is this - if you are not a real experienced computer person you absolutely need Windows xp over Unix.

this is a pretty big question... it's like asking what's the difference between a little compact car, and a big rig/18 wheeler...
at the most basic, they are both operating systems for a computer, just like the two vehicles i mentioned can transport you from one place to another...
now onto a couple of differences... Windows is geared much more to the end user, where unix is much more geared to a server (there is some cross over there, and windows servers are increasing every day)...
also, unix is primarily a text based os, there are grafic interfaces for it now, but it's still primarily a text based os, where windows is almost completly a grafix based interface...
that's just a couple of things for you to get started with...

Thats not a far reaching question is it ?
You'll need to research and write it up as a project to find out !
Bit of work required rather than fire off vague qestions here I'm afraid
