Why is cricket linked to human sacrifice?
*** Short answer (this can develop into a very long story) ***
Cricket is is rooted in pre-history and barbaric acts of human sacrifice.
Consider, for a moment, Stonehenge - that prehistoric monument in England. Think of the upright stones and the horizontal stones on top of them. Remind you of anything? Wickets perhaps?
In pre-history, when humans were sacrificed at Stonehenge (alright I know they probably weren't!!!!) the knife would be driven into the victim just as the sun was beginning to move towards the stones. Now, a cricket ball is red because it represents the sun travelling towards the stones at great speed.
Clearly, the sacrificial victim was not having one of his (or her) better days, and so would do anything to thwart the travel of the sun - including grabbing the sacrificial knife.
This ancient custom is reflected in the modern equivalent of a cricket batsman (sacrificial victim) doing anything possible to knock the sun (ball) right out of the ground using the sacrificial knife (bat) and thus avert his fate.
Obvious really!

I only know this one, but it's a good one:
In a match, the team that is batting has all of their batsmen go out first ball.
Which number batsman is the one that is left "not out"?
The answer is the number 8 batsman.
It works like this:
#1 and #2 batsmen are batting.
Then #1 out, #3 out, #4 out, #5 out, #6 out, #7 out.
Change of over and therefore change of sides
Then #2 out, #9 out, #10 out, #11 out
this leaves #8 as not out
Hope you like this one
