Can anyone suggest any brands of laptops that they have had success with, and yet are inexpensive? I hope to have a dual core processor, AMD or Intel, with at least 1gb ram, and a decent video card. It should also have a dvd/cd burner.

Hard to beat Dell on price, but they crap out after a year. Get an HP or a Toshiba - much, much better systems for your money. Seriously - I see fried Dells all the time. Anybody who cares about their money should avoid Dell. However, if you buy a new laptop and a new cellphone every 6 months for the fashion aspect, go ahead and get a new Dell with one of those trendy laptop skins - maybe a nice pink leopard print.

Check out Dell they seem to always have some kind of a sale going on and I have a Dell laptop and have had 3 Dell desktop computers and have never had a problem with any of them.

You could always get a dell or you could get a reconditioned Sharp PC-AL27 that has much more technology than a dell for the same price. Go to www.sharpsystems.com

Can you get anything decent that cheap?

Yes, wasn't it the Dell that you could use for roasting marsh mellows when it caught fire due to the battery overheating? If mine caught fire I'd throw it in my grill with some charcoal and cook a couple of steaks over it.

Go for a toshiba satellite laptop model. I think they're below $900.
