Try the World Almanac for 1971.. I can't think of anything. The fall of Siagon was April of 1975 and the TET Offensive was 1968... like I said... I can't think of anything specific other than I had a great lunch at that Mexican place at the end of the block.
The muslim murdering of innocents at the Munich Olympics was in 1972... could your friend not know her years?

This was all I could find from Wikipedia - If you scroll down it has all the notable events in October 1971, although there doesn't seem to be anything for the 11th.
Is there anything it could specifically relate to? Is your friend into a particular band, style of music, film genre ect?
