I would like to have a new email address that only my family and friends would know of.

You are allowed to have one more additional email address on yahoo in addition to your primary email address. To do this go to options under mail.then follow the instructions displayed.

yes u r allowed for another address but u will receive emails in the same inbox.

Sign up for as many as you want. I have 8 at the time between my "real" one, this public one, a "junk" one, and businesses I operate. Go to Yahoo.com and sign up for as many as you need.
