This question has already been answered many times, however, I just have to voice my opinion. In some instances it's better NOT to know 'what happens.' Such is the case with the so-called sequel Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. Now when the book first came out, I was already familiar with several of Ripley's novels. I'd read two or three of them actually. Some I liked, one I hated. But I bought the book SCARLETT in hardback and had great hopes. The first time I read it, I didn't hate it. Maybe I didn't want to admit it to anyone not even myself after having paid $20+ for a hardback book which I'd never read before. And then the nightmare of a movie sequel came on tv. After seeing the awfulness of it on the screen--it is 10 times worse than the book--I couldn't even imagine picking up the book again any time soon. But I have probably read Scarlett two or three times as opposed to reading GWTW over a dozen. The last time I read Scarlett I was so disgusted with the book I vowed never again would I try to read it.

So my advice...don't ruin the beauty of GWTW by exposing your mind to the "sequel" Scarlett. And whatever you do...AVOID the movie Scarlett at all costs.

It is Scarlett by Alexandra Ripley. And it's definitely not the same quality as "Gone With the Wind," but if you keep an open mind, then I think it was a pretty good book. Just don't expect another classic.

Alexandra Ripley has also written a couple of other good books that are historical fiction. I know she has a really neat one about Cleopatra.

There is a sequel - actually called "Scarlett." I myself have not read it due to the reviews of several other readers, found on amazon.com. The sequel was not written by Margaret Mitchell, but rather by someone the Mitchell estate hired after Mitchell's death to author the sequel.

The lady who wrote Gone with the Wind died. I think that was the only book she wrote. Someone else wrote a crappy book call Scarlet it is a so-called sequel.

There is, it's called Scarlet, but it sucks. It was written by a different author. They even made a movie that sucks more than the book.

"Scarlett," by Alexandra Ripley, as mentioned below. I was underwhelmed by it because in it, Miss Scarlett behaves way out of her abrasive but very refreshing character, becoming a doting mommy and doing some other things that aren't particularly interesting and just aren't her.
