england is currently commiting billions to renew its nuclear power stations, to stop reliance on fossil fuels. It's also ploughing billions into its nuclear deterrant, which will either never be used or, if it is used, will probably just add 50 or so missiles to the thousands which would already be flying and so be a waste of time as the world will be over. ( i can't see england firing off unilaterally ). Yet it seems to think it has the right to deny iran the same right to advance its people by forcing it to use it oil supplies to generate power. Will it still deny them in forty years when their oil runs out ? I find it shameful. Together with our government's total support of israel using cluster bombs on civilians and destroying power stations and hospitals to free hostages, it can be little wonder the middle east sees the west with suspicion and contempt

a lot of answers are using iran's refusal of enriched uranium from russia as proof of their hostile intent, but i think a more valid reason would be national pride. Can you honestly say America would accept it if russia developed some new technology and said they would share the end product but not the knowledge of how it was done?
oh, and just to be petty, if mr richard the monkey wants to correct me, get the correction right. it will be united kingdom instead of england, not britain. please don't answer a question i didn't ask.

also, i find it incredibly unlikely that iran would use nuclear weapons against israel. It would not willingly contaminate its allies and one of the holiest cities in islam. Yes it wants to move the jewish people on, but only for the palestinians to move back in. Whilst i don't agree with the views of their president, i find it impossible to believe he would deem the destruction of palestine as an accepable loss for the destruction of israel

I beleive the UK has demonstrated its mature use of things atomic. Iran has not and hints at unsafe uses.

In Britain's eyes there's so no such thing as good and bad governments (at least not in a moral sense). Instead they view governments that do as they and America tell them and those that don't.
It doesn't matter if you're a brutal dictator, you can pretty much do as you like if you tow the line.
However, if you are a relatively decent government (not saying Iran is, but there a damn site better than some of Middle East regimes such as Saudi Arabia) but you don't do as The West tell you then you're the wrong government in Britain's eyes.
Iran fits into the wrong government category and that's why they can't develop nuclear power or weapons.

They are not denying them the right to produce nuclear energy and it is the UN which is talking of sanctions. The reason for this is everyone is agreed that nuclear proliferation must end it's just finding the means to do it. To allow an unstable country (that openly supports terrorism), in an unstable region to develop such weapons could see a nuclear war across the Middle East. Thankfully it is unlikely that Israel will allow completion of the programme.

Iran is not being deinied Nuclear power, its being denied the ability to enrich its own uranium. Enriched Uranium can also be used in weapons. Russia has offered to supply Iran with all the Uranium it needs at very low cost, Iran has no other reason for developing an enrichment plant except to produce weapons. And dont forget that Russia and China are even in agreement with the west on this one.

Because Iran, if it makes a nuclear weapon, is in breach of the Non-Proliferation Treaty, which it freely signed. The United Kingdom has also signed the Treaty, but are allowed under its terms to update its existing arsenal.
Iran is perfectly entitled to develop civilian nuclear technology for power, but has shown itself to be duplicitous and deceitful about this programme. Russia and the west have offered to process the uranium for them, and therefore enable an Iranian nuclear power programme, but Iran have turned this down. Why?

Iran doesn't need nuclear technology except for making bombs. We don't have as much oil as they do. So we're going to build lots of new power stations that will produce a load of nuclear waste from which we can strip the plutonium and sell it to the USA. Can't imagine what they want it for.

Because England is a democratic society and will not export nuclear arms to terrorists like Iran will.
You don't have to be too smart to realize that. Iran wants the Muslims to control the world and once all those terror groups have compact nuc weapons, watch out.

Starting off buddy the country that you are looking for is BRITAIN. as a matter of fact the nuclear base is in scotland.
the reason we can berate Iran is that we are a stable country and are not a risk to the rest of the world as we don't make statements that we think that Israel or any other non muslim nation should be wiped off the map

You raise excellent points, yes, we are suppourting Israel, much to my chagrin. And then you say you "can't see England firing off unilaterally". Trouble is, in the West, a lot of people CAN see Iran firing off unilaterally. They would rather they didn't have the chance.

I occasionally come across questions that are so naive that they don't deserve an answer. Your's is such a question, writ large. You seriously need to get out of that liberal noddy world that you seem to live in, and join the rest of us in the real world. Have you been listening to left wing lecturers or watching too much left wing TV.

Their president has openly said, that he would use nuclear weapons to annihilate israel. I think letting any country who threatens to use nuclear weapons this openly and outrageously is an extreme danger to the global community.
