They are small mites that live in the hair, and they most commonly are spread by contact with other people who have headlice. They are fairly common among school-aged children, especially girls, because it is easy to catch them by sharing hair bows or hats, or things like that. Also, if girls have long hair and one sits in a chair, then another later on, the lice can live on the back of the chair for a short while. There are many products at the medicine store that can help you to get rid of them, but you must also kill the eggs or there will be more.

They come from eggs. A louse gets into your hair from another infected person, lays eggs (nits) and these hatch into lice. They get transferred by head to head contact, which is why they are so easily transmitted by children to other children. Wet combing with a fine tooth comb is the best way to get rid of them.
Look at http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/diseases/facts/lice.htm
for more info.

In human heads, headlice live as parasites. They can also live freely beyond the scalp. Ergo, they come usually from infected humans or surfaces that infected human heads have touched.
Believe it or not, God created them, too.
