Just seems to me that a baby two months early would not be that heavy. But is it possible?

There could be several factors into the childs weight. Some women cannot give a date for their last menstral cycle because they could of been still having it while pregnant. If that is the case it will throw off the due date. Other reason a child be be born larger is gestational diabetes or diabetes.

My son was 3 weeks early and weighed in at 7 lbs 15 oz. due to me having gestational diabetes. Just in June my sister-in-law had her baby girl 2 1/2 months early and she weighed in at 3lbs 10 oz. If you are the father questioning paternity take a test. If your a family member be glad the baby is here and healthy.

From the sounds of it though the female may of had break through bleeding. There is no guarantee with ultrasounds to give a due date.

It had to be a miscalculation or the mother lied about when she conceived. No way can a baby weigh 6 pounds and 4 ounces if the mom is due October 22, no way. A two month calculation is very suspicious. Doctor's are never that far off with the new technology we have today.

Anything is possible, but the doctor makes his calculations of the due date by the information given to him by the woman and by the measurements of the ultrasound. If something is way off, on one and not meshing with the other there would have been questions way befor the birth.
And as far as how big the baby was at birth, well babies come in all sizes so saying the baby was to large at birth to be pre-term is not exactly accurate. I had two babies that were full term and weighed 7 and 8 pounds and one pre-term birth(1 month) and that baby weighed 6.4 pounds. Yet a friend of mine had full term babies that weighed 10 and 12 pounds(honest she did), and a sister in law that had a full term baby that weighed only 6 pounds even.

Could be possible If big babies run in the family. They do in mine and babies during the 7th month can gain alot of weight in that month.

My Daughter was born 3 weeks early according to due date but I had three different due dates and was 7 lbs 10 oz.So She would have been about 5/6 pounds around the same time as that early baby.

She would have been a 10 + pounder if she had come on time according to the doctor.

With a baby weighing this much, and not considered prematue. I would say your due date was miscalculated. You can still have some light periods at the beginning of your pregnancy especially if you have been on birth control pills before you got pregnant, so this may have been the problem with determining your due date.

NO one doctor gets the exact date completely right. Sometimes it's not unusual to be off by several weeks. However, two months is a bit of a chunk. 6 pounds is not that heavy but at least the child was able to survive out of the womb, and that's a good thing, right?

If you're unsure the baby's yours, get a DNA test done pronto. Just a hunch.

The due date was probably miscalculated but if not and you had the baby on the due date, that baby would be huge! Good luck with your little one.

Possible, but not necessarily. I've heard recently of several full term babies being born in the 10 - 12 pound range (the poor mothers). The key question is when did you start missing your period. Regarless, it sounds like your baby is healthy, so enjoy, it's a wonderful time!

It is very possible if she had gestational diabetes... he may have been and 11 pound baby at birth... they gain anywhere from a 1/4 lb to a lb a week the last month... it also depends on genetics you know if she or a generation before her were big etc..

I think its possible for the date to be off. It's hard to precisely calculate these things.

I had my son 3 weeks early and he weighed 6lbs 5oz. I had an ultrasound the day before he was born and they told me according to ultrasound calculations he would be around 8lbs...even at 3 weeks early. So see nothing is completely accurate. Just be happy your baby is healthy!
