Hi. There are a few things I always suggest as an IT Director.
1) Know your budget and stick to it. Sometimes people go overboard and purchase over the top
2) Think about what you truly are interested in doing with it.
Email, Web Surfing, Wireless etc. Nowadays every laptop will have these capabilities.
3) Then, what do you do for work (or if you are in school). If you are someone that will need Graphic Design Programs, etc make sure you add that to your list.
4) Go to a store like Best Buy or something to just walk around and try them out. Try the keyboard, see the size of the screens etc.

5) Most will now come with some sort of trial anti-virus package. Try it and compare the price of that anti-virus service to others you might be able to purchase. Some antivirus programs are free for personal users.

Generally you want a minimum of 512 mb ram
and a high processing speed (Pentium)
Hard Drives come in many sizes, but somewhere between 40GB-80GB should be something you may grow into.

If you will be traveling, when purchasing the laptop also ask for the Electricity Adapters. They have a kit.

Hope this helps!

Nothing to do other than install Firewall and an antivirus software to prevent ur lappy from virus.Don't forget to update the softwares also.

See there are different types of laptops for diff purposes.
performace,Gaming,Data Loss Prev:,Security.....etc
i cannot give u entire list.

Basically one can say
1)All purpose lappy-The laptop with normal features.
2)Power laptops-U can almost replace ur desktop with it
3)Ultra purpose-highly portable

First u should ask yourself that why i am using laptop instead of desktop.what are ur applications that u would like to perform in it.

I think u can get a brief idea from this link.

I can't explain the answer to you because it would be too technical, So I'm just writing to let you know that viruses are the same all over the world.
