Happened to me last week! Go to Settings, Control Panel, Regional and Language Options, and change the language to English UK.

You have your keyboard set to american. What you do is for windows XP: Start > Control Panel Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options. Then Click change the Format of Numbers, Dates and Times. On the new windows on the top bar. Press Languages. Then under text services and Input languages press details. Then on the Drop down box drop it down and choose the United Kingdom Setting. Then press ok and ok on then ok on the other window and you should be back to normal!

The response for changing your regional settings is dead on, but I thought you might also like to know that there may be an option on the right of your task bar. Just left of the little clock. If it says US, click on it and you might get the choice of clicking US or ENG. I suspect you accidentally done this before thus switching your keyboard settings to US.

Your keyboard has been changed to a US style keyboard where Shift 2 is @ and " is just next to the right shift key.
You need to change the regional setting back to UK from the control panel.

The interchanging of the keys usually happens when u have installed a new operating system and this operating system which u hav installed has'nt been installed properly on your computer. So my advice wud be to install ur operating system once again and then hopefully everything will be back to normal.
P.S-itz not an error with ur keyboard but an error with ur operating system......

If the U.S. - U.K. thing is not the problem.
Do a "System Restore" back to: before the problem started.
Start Menu/Programs/Accessories/Sysm Tools/Sysm.Restore
OR
Control Panel/Administrative tools/Services/Sysm Restore

That's because of the "language and regional" settings for your keyboard.
Start > Settings > Regional & Language ...set everything to your country then click Ok.
