Metals are elements which comes from a particular area of the periodic table. Examples of metals include copper in electrical wires and aluminum in cooking foil and beverage cans.
Alloys contain more than one metallic element. Their properties can be changed by changing the elements present in the alloy.
Examples of alloys include stainless steel which is an alloy of iron, nickel, and chromium; and gold jewelry which usually contains an alloy of gold and nickel.

Gold, silver and copper are metals and each has its own atomic structure and is very soft in pure form. For example gold in pure form (24k) is too soft to use to make a finger ring. If gold is alloyed with another pure metal the result is harder and more durable. Gold can be alloyed with silver and/or copper to perhaps 14k gold (14 parts of 24 or about 58% gold) to make a durable ring of the desired color. Silver makes "white gold" and copper makes it more reddish. Iron alloyed with carbon makes steel and by adding a small amount of chrome (alloy) it becomes stainless steel. Mixing metals, etc. to form an alloy locks the soft atoms into grains that can not as easily slide relative to each other and are therefore less ductile.

A metall is an element that has less than 4 electrons in it's last energy level. It is characterized by having a strong tendancy to lose electrons during a chemical reaction and it forms Ionic bonds with non metals, forming Ionic compounds. Examples of metals are Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca). All of the previous examples are from the first and second group; other metals that are out of these groups and more relavent to ur comparison are Iron (Fe), Copper (Cu) and Cromium (Cr).
Alloys are mixes made between metals, especially transitional metals like Iron, Nickel and Copper. In such mix, metalls don't react with each other, and they don't make compounds; Instead only what happens is that an atom of one metal replaces the atom of the other metal; it is more like mixing two pouders, like for instance salt with sugar; they don't react, but they mix.

Metal is any type of so-called malleable material which is a good conductor of heat. On the other hand, alloy is a mixture of 2 or more types of metals. Note that it is a mixture, not a compound! It is not chemically combined

1. METAL=any of various opaque, fusible, ductile, and typically lustrous substances that are good conductors of electricity and heat, form cations by loss of electrons, and yield basic oxides and hydroxides; especially : one that is a chemical element as distinguished from an alloy.
2. ALLOY: any mixture of two metals or a metal and a non-metal.
