Depends on you!

If you are planning on spending a lot of time in your hotel room, then stay at one of the higher end resorts inside the park. If you are planning on spending most of your time inside the parks then stay at one of the all-star resorts. (I am assuming that you have children, but these are great places to stay without children too.) Have many features and all the perks of the disney resorts added in, with less frills so less expense. You can go online and check out all the resort accomidations inside the park. But I do recommend staying inside the Disney World Park. It is wonderful and the added expense to the room is more than made up for in the discount that you get on the tickets for the park.

It depends on what you can afford. There's Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts.

My favorite Walt Disney World Resort is Disney's Polynesian Resort. My boyfriend and I have been staying there the past couple years. It's a beautiful Resort, the theme being the South Seas. There's the Great Ceremonial House where you go to check in. That's also where the restaurants, gift shops, art gallery, etc. are located. All the Guest rooms are located in different longhouses, and each longhouse is named after a Polynesian country. For example, there's Tonga, Tokelou, Aotearoa, Samoa, Hawaii, etc. We've stayed in Aotearoa (room 1221), where we had a great view of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Cinderella Castle, and we've also stayed in the Hawaii longhouse (room 1516), which is for Concierge Guests, and there we had the best view on property, room- an incredible view of the beach, the Lagoon, the Grand Floridian Resort, the Magic Kingdom Park, Cinderella Castle, Space Mountain, and the Contemporary Resort. There's numerous forms of transportation to the Parks from this Resort- the monorail, which comes right to the Great Ceremonial House, boats, and buses. The monorail is the best. It's the quickest and there's always A/C, unlike in some of the buses. There's only three Resorts that the monorail connects to- the Contemporary Resort, the Grand Floridian Resort, and the Polynesian Resort. This Resort has great dining options. There's the Kona Cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This is one of my favorite restaurants on WDW property, and I always eat here at least twice. For breakfast, try the famous "Tonga Toast." For lunch or dinner, as an appetizer, try the pot stickers. They are so delicious! Also, the smoothies at this restaurant are great. Another restaurant at this Resort is 'Ohana. This restaurant does family-style service and it's all-you-care-to-eat. 'Ohana offers a Character breakfast in the morning with Mickey, Stitch, and others. The restaurant also offers a fantastic dinner. There's a quick-service restaurant, Captain Cook's, where you can get burgers, chicken strips, pizzas, snacks, and drinks. They're open 24 hours, and they serve stuff for breakfast, too. Finally, there's the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show (the Polynesian Luau.) It's all-you-care-to-eat, and it's a great show. You can also walk over to the Grand Floridian Resort, or take the monorail to the Grand Floridian or Contemporary Resorts for other dining options. The Polynesian Resort has two awesome pools- the volcano pool with a water slide and a zero-depth entry, and then the "quiet pool." The Resort offers numerous recreation options, like bike rentals, boat rentals, guided fishing excursions, etc.

On our most recent trip, I learned that the Polynesian Resort has the highest rate of returning Guests. If you stay here, you'll definitely want to make a return. Everything about this Resort is perfect. The staff, too.

Have fun!

If you actually want to stay inside the Disney complex there are a variety of hotels dependant on your budget. If you've got unlimited moneys you have to stay at Grand Floridian. Slightly less is any of the Disney Boardwalk properties. Their lower end at the Pop Century resort which is a little brash compared to the others which are quite refined.
There are expensive especially compared to properties outside resort plus you're slightly more confined as you're in Disney and they tend to charge a fortune for food and drink.
Kissimmee is near but it's not that nice. It's a huge multi lane highway with hotels running off it. I personally thought it was awful and definately wouldn't reccommend. I haven't stayed in a villa there so that might be better but don't bother with a hotel.
I would personally choose International Drive over everywhere else ever time. We've been six times and have stayed on I Drive 5 of out the six (Kissimmee being the other).
I Drive is approx 10 minutes from Universal Studios, 15-20 from Disney and 10 minutes from the big shopping centres so it's really central. There's a variety of hotel, again dependant on budget.
A reasonable and convienent hotel is the Quality Inn International.
I've stayed there before and when we got married in Florida I reccomended our wedding party to stay there.
If you're looking for a more luxurious hotel go for the Wyndham International. It's a great hotel (our honeymoon hotel) which has all the trappings you would expect.
The Doubletree Castle Hotel is lovely too. Doubletree doesn't give the impression it's nice but it's lovely fromn the outside.
It literally looks like a castle with turrets and flags. The kids will love it.

I am going march of 2007 and last time i stayed off property. disney hotels are expensive. If you have kids you may want to consider the nickelodeon hotel. it costs about the same as disney but its designed for kids. all the reviews i have read are pretty good and there are pleanty of pictures posted to give you an idea of what the hotel is like. its more hotel for the same money you would spend on a value resort. If you dont have kids then of course this wouldnt be the place for you. i will leave you with the links so you can check it out. Its very close to the theme parks and they have a free shuttle to all four disney parks.

Let me just sat that anywhere on Disney property is a great place to stay. It all depends on what you can afford! Here are my picks:

The really good resorts are the ones at the Magic Kingdom: Polynesian, Contemporary and Grand Floridian. The Animal Kingdom Lodge. The resorts at Disney's Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin. These are very $$$.

Next, I would suggest Old Key West, The Coronado, Port Orleans, Riverside, these are $$.

Then I would suggest any of the value resorts: Music, Movies or Sports. They are priced great and are good locations.

I have stayed at many of the resorts on Disney property and they are all very nice. I would stay at Pop Century, but only because the bus get crowded very quickly and the dining area packs in fast to. It is a very large resort. The others (Music, movies, sports) are smaller. It's more a hotel feel.

The atmosphere at places like the Polynesian and Coronado makes you really feel like you are on vacation, like you are in a different place.

ALL of the resorts provide transportation to the parks. And they all have restaurants, so it all depends how much you want to spend!

P.S. Stay away from OBT (Orange Blossom Trail). It's the Red Light District of Orlando and it is very far from the parks!

The advice I give to anyone who asks this question is do you plan to stay by the pool and relax, or explore and discover the WDW experience? When we stay my wife and I both agree to stay in the top of the line resort really is a waste. We use our hotel to sleep, shower, and store our clothes. We spend the majority of the time in the parks and soaking up the experience.

We have Friends that because they cannot take the rides (even the milder ones) they spend the money on the better resorts because they spend allot of time shopping and seeing the sights.

My advice for what it is worth, is go middle of the road as far as hotels or resorts go. A really good idea is go to Disney on line and get a free vacation planning kit, they really go into detail about the different hotels and resorts. After you take some notes on what you think interests you, call a Disney travel agent and pick there brains. I think you''ll find they really go out of there way to help you make a decision.

After you get prices from them take them to some travel agents and compare prices.

My favorite is Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. It is one of the newer Disney hotels and has a great theme. The restaurants are good there, the pool is nice, and the best part is that you can go right outside the hotel and see wild animals. If you have a room with a savanah view, you can see them from your room. Kids love that.

If you are looking to stay on the Disney monorail though, Animal Kingdom Lodge is not on it. If you want the monorail, then the Grand Floridian is great or the Polynesian (which has a pretty cool volcano pool that kids will enjoy).

We like the Disney Hotels. There are all price ranges. Check the Disney World Web Site. Being on the Disney property makes it easy to get to and from the parks. The other hotel I have stayed in is the Hilton. It is across the street from the Disney Marketplace. I don't recommend staying off the property. You will find yourself driving back and forth to much....Disney buses can do that for you. Have a fun time.....we love it and buy season tickets every year.

If you plan on staying on Disney property, your best bet would be to go to the DisneyWorld web site. You can do a comparison of the different resorts they offer. It is of course, a matter of preference and budget.

If you are looking at the value resorts, I highly recommend Pop Century. As for the pricier resorts, I would suggest the Polynesian. It is a very relaxed atmosphere.

Have a great trip!

Here are my 2 favorites and why:

Beach Club ($$$): Located next to Epcot. You can literally walk into the World Showcase through the side entrance and can take a boat to MGM. This resort has the best pool in all of Disney World. You can get a room with 2Q and a day bed.

Doubletree Guest Suites ($$): Located just inside the east gate of DIsney World (on hotel row) near Downtown Disney. You get a suite including 1K or 2Q, sofa bed, coffee table, refrigerator, microwave, sink, table and chairs.
