I work in an office with other people. I wanted to know if "the administrator" can see what I'm writting on my computer or can he just see when i'm on line? If the answer is yes to these questions, could you please tell me how I can stop "the administrator" from that?

That's hard to tell without knowing more about your network. Generally the administrator has access to all files on your computer. And there are several programs that allow "spying" on users by logging every keystroke, opened programs and windows and more. This is, as far as I know, illegal without informing the users about it. If there are no spy programs installed or activated on your computer, the administrator shouldn't be able to read your writings unless you save them to your harddrive/network. Communications like Instant Messengers do not save the conversations if you don't want them to, emails written through the webinterface are not saved either. However, if you use your business email client (i.e. Outlook), the administrator can read those emails.

I hope that helps ;o)

1) The system administrator can't able to see wht are the files in ur hard disk until its not shared.
2) Using the log file he can able to see the when ever ur in online.
3)Latestly a software is available to take the screenshot of the desktop of the user wht he was doing currently in the office hours without his the knowledge on every hour(its depend upon the time set).

Most IT departments use remote administration tools. These can include keylogger and desktop viewer programs. In short anything you do on a company asset can be tracked, right down to watching your actions real time as though they were standing over your shoulder.

To the user above me. Just as an F.Y.I. it is not illegal for employers to monitor user activity including email on company assets. This is because they own the equipment and have the right to determine how it may be used. They also do not have to inform you when they are monitoring.

There are many different programs that allow your administrator to view what you are doing! They can actually watch your desktop as you use it! They can also control your system! Have you ever watched your mouse pointer take off on its own? I use free software called realvnc on my network that allows me to do exactly this! If you can find the software they use, you can simply turn it off but they will come investigating if they cant see your screen!

R. Rama you aint got a clue! they can not only see the desktop but control your programs and even record your desktop IN VIDEO at will!
I have this software on my lan! I can also use it to control machines throughout the shop that are run with windows software!
To Danny, yes it is every bit perfectly legal! The only thing they cant do is watch you take a dump!

Most corporations use a LAN system. Yes they can see all, and there is nothing you can do to stop it, except quit and not use there computers.
You are using a small piece of there equipment.
Most of them will not or really not sure if they can not change anything on your computer unless you give them your personal password. But they can see what you are doing if they need to do it.

If you do not want "the administrator" to see what you are writing on your computer, then just save your information on a 3.5" disk so that your personal information is safe and sound.

I've heard that you shouldn't write anything on an email or online that you wouldn't want the whole world to read.
