Ritchie Valens, "La Bamba" in 1958. The movie about his life was called "La Bamba."

Or if you're looking for something more recent, it was Selena, "I could fall in love" in 1995. She was the first modern Hispanic cross-over. Jennifer Lopez starred in the movie about her life.
