Hello, If you have children and apply lotion on them, how old are they and what age did you stop applying it on them?

I did it occassionally when they were babies after a bath, but not after every bath. Your skin naturally stay hydrated as long as you are getting the nutrients that you need and are not overwashing it. And sometimes I still apply to my 3 year old because he is a spoiled little massage junkie and he loves for mama to rub his back. Now only if I can train him to rub mine, LOL

You should stop applying lotion to your children when they are physically able to and mentally competant enough to apply it to themselves. There is no fixed age, and when the day comes that you request they apply their own lotion, I highly doubt it will be a traumatic event for either of you. As for "not reaching the back", well, all adults have that problem so I guess you could be their helper in that regard. But, do you really want to be massaging lotion into your 17 year old son? At some point, much earlier than that age, you've got to make the obviously difficult (for you) decision to let them do it themselves. I promise, they don't die, and you won't either. Let go!

I have two girls, a 7 year old and a 4 year old. They still use lotion to this day. They use the Johnson's Baby Lotion everyday after their baths. I no longer apply it myself because they already do it for themselves.

I only put lotion on my son when he gets out of the bath, but other than that leave em alone, thier skin is already super supple. As for when to stop, i cant answer on experience as my sons only 3, but when he can do it without making a mess with the lotion, ill let him do it solo. until then ill help him

I gave up on lotion just after my first, and switched to baby oil. It goes on them right after their bath. I still use it and my kids, and they are 4 and 2. They haven't complained of itchy, dry skin since I switched.

I did try the lotion bit on my youngest, but didn't work either. After about an hour from the application, she was scratching all over like there hadn't been any on her to begin with.

So, we are BABY OIL family.

I used to put it on my kids when they were babies. They are blessed with nice skin and they are now 10. If their knees and elbows look dry, I will tell them to put some on.

I've heard that if lotion is applied often, your skin gets used to it and can't produce moisture on it's own. How true this is, I'm not too sure.

I still put lotion on my kids occasionally when they get out of the bathtub. They are 3 and 4 now. Now that they're older, they'll help me put it on them. I usually rub their backs and tummies and get them to do the rest. At this age, they think it's fun anyway.

I've been putting lotion on my youngest since she was born and she's 5 now. I still do it though, I'm not gonna let her do it until she's able to follow directions completely. My daughter has eczema and that's what the doctor told me to do.
