Yes, your computer still uses a tiny bit of power when it is turned off.
The advantage of turning it off at the plug may not be what you think The tiny amount of power used is insigificant. But turning off the power strip will help to isolate your computer from those circuits that are live during a lightning storm. During a severe storm, you would want to unplug modems from the telephone or cable lines too.

Your PC has a small battery on the motherboard so when it is plugged in a small amount of power is fed into it so the battery is not used to retain time and BIOS settings. Also if it is a newer PC with an ATX form factor motherboard then yes a small (very small) amount of power is still going to the computer so it can tell when the power switch is pressed. You do not need to unplug the PC except during electrical storms. Also you should invest in a good battery backup.

As per British gas if you leave your plug on than it will continue consume some amount of energy and one more thing that amazed me is that they says if you leave the plug in socket and switched it off still it will use electricity so best thing to do is unplug all the equipment after you finished using it.
Try it for 1 or 2 months and you will notice the difference.

It doesn't matter u switched it off... it wont use power so no need to wory. U can turn off the power so any other Perpherials or Components are safely off. Screen, Printer, Scanner, Speaker and even sumtimes the Keyboard lights stay on. On mine so switching off by Power Plug is good for some things!

You can leave it on. The PC has a built in battery so the time and date will continue. The PC will not continue to draw power from the plug when you have shut down. Unless of course you are not actually shutting down but putting on standby

After you tern it off, unplug it for safety in case some lightning occurs. If your monitor is connected with live wares, then it will draw some powers(if light is on and shows some reddish color).
If you are going for a vacation or not going to use it for a long time, even unplug it from UPS too,(and don't forget to discharge all charges from UPS).

I read somewhere that the PC itself does not use much power. The printer uses a lot of power and maybe the disk drives. Definitely shutting down your PC is good enough.
