You have a few options:

1. Lock it using powerpoint security options under Tools-Options-Security. This will allow you two set two password types 1) 1 to open the file and 2) another to modify the file. If you are sending it to a customer and just want them to be able to read it, this is a good option.
2. You can package the file in a .zip format with a password, which will secure it so that noone can open it. This is good if you are leaving it in a public spot or sending over unsecure mail
3. You can print it ot a .PDF file. This will both prevent it from being modified and will allow someone to read it even if they don't have powerpoint. A free print to pdf utility can be found here:

if you set up your show to be in kiosk mode that will make it slightly harder to adapt you show as no menus are present thn just save as read only along with password protection. this should help also. but its not full proof though

you can password protect ur ppt's by
Tools-->Options-->Security
