If like me, you recieve a free local paper then what do you think about them? To many loose adverts, or informative marketing? Interesting features or boring drivel? (I get the Dudley News... which is dire!)

To be honest I stopped buying papers when they invented the internet, but the odd times a freebie local rag is posted through the door and I read it out of curiousity.

Any journalism you see on the internet or for that matter in the major rags, like the mirror or the times, is given a particular spin depending on the type of people they expect to be writing for. And of course you get the world and national news. To be honest, the world and national events don't often have a noticable effect on our day to day lives, unless we have someone close whose gone to war.

The local papers aren't so much influenced by world events but local crimes like if your corner shop has been vandalised or if the library is closing. They seem to be geared toward families, who have kids that go to school, the local library and the leisure centre. Or local councillors who are responsible for making facilities available for these families. They don't seem to have a lot for single young adults like myself, who live independantly and don't have a lot of local ties. But I can see why they are important for the majority of people that get it. And because they print so many adverts for local businesses, they can be distributed freely and aren't pressured by folk like Rupert Murdoch to give a jaded view of the world. They aren't pressured to shock the their readers, so you get a more accurate idea of what's going on.

yeah i do read them. They're informative but there is junk in there too just like the nationals. If you want to move to another area and want to know what the place is like then they're great at giving you a feel for the place. If the headline concerns itself with a chip pan fire followed by local trade up then it's fair to assume it's a safer place to be than one that states 10th burglary in a week or mr jones murdered in own bed, etc. Also if you want work done it makes sense to pick a local business usually advertised in these papers.

If you are into making money in the local real estate market or need to know how the city is going to do this or that, and when, then you have no better source than your local paper...they are the only ones who care about kids sports and so on...boring unless your kid is involved...

They are usually dull as last weeks dish water.

The Metro you get free on the bus is good though. i'd give them 10 out of 10 for content and features. Better than the local paper you have to buy.

The registry in ordinary words lists the persons who've been stuck. in ordinary words a million in 25 situations of sexual abuse are ever stated. meaning for each individual living close to you on the registry, multiply that through 25. This record also does not delineate the distinction between someone who urinated in public, became a Romeo and Juliet case, streaked, became sexted through an adolescent, or became framed for downloading newborn porn which could be a %of a 17 year previous. The registry expenses tax payers over $six hundred,000,000 in accordance to year. do not click it. It in ordinary words validates its worthlessness. Sandusky wasn't on the registry. Ariel Castro wasn't on the registry. Did it seem after any of their victims?

They make their money by advertising mainly.
Therefore it's an attempt to brainwash and manipulate you.
Only old people have the time on their hands to read the junk.
I used to deliver one and they were the first to complain if I was a little late with it!!!!! It was a free paper for gawd's sake!!!!!!!!

Sad really!!!

Apart from the loose adverts, they're a good thing. They allow you to keep in more touch with your community.

Most places they are grim but I like them here in Puerto Rico since they tell about local developments and sports teams. News you can't find elsewhere.
