It's because women are supposed to be at home taking care of their children. Men are supposed to protect the tribe from external threats, such as a rivalling tribe.
War is just the modern variant of this.

I am in the Air Force, and all military employs both male and female troops. The only area which females CANNOT participate in is Special forces. IE combat control, navy seals, green berets. The reason behind this is because on an average, men are more phsyically apt to deal with the situations. Women are capable as well, but in the line of duty, if one of my troops got shot, (a male) i would move on to finish the objective of the mission. If a female would get wounded, I would be more apt to go back and try to help her, disregarding the mission.
Women do get deployed in the desert. YES sometimes with little showers or makeup or whatnot. They deal with it.

Well,from the sound of your question and considering the catagory this question is in,you are quiet young.You are more than likely at that stage in your life where you do not understand females.Then again,most men dont grow out of that just as us women do not understand the males most of the time.The military welcomes participants from both genders.Reguardless of their gender,they can become a part of the military.I suppose,the general public are used to seeing men get sweaty and dirty and "most" women dont.

The reason there are more men is because unlike women men can use only half of there brain at a time (yes that really is true) and the half that tells them to stay at home so they don't get killed usually doesn't work.

No it that we can go out and not have to take a shower for weeks and you girls your emotions get the best of you out on the battle Field and you get worried about not takeing a shower or not have ing your nails done an all off that crap us guys do not have to worry about
