Not live, but important areas are updated more frequently than five years. For example, look at the World Trade Center location, and you see the clean up operation well underway (Obviously less than five years old - looks about 2-3 years old judging from other nearby construction).

The WWII memorial, located across the reflecting pond from the Lincoln memorial in Washington DC, is shown as under construction. This took place from 2001 to 2004. The National Museum of the American Indian, one of the Smithsonian buildings on the mall, is also under construction, which took place from 1999 to 2004. From the advanced status of the construction at both locations, I'd guess a 2002 or 2003 timeframe.

My house, on the other hand, shows a vehicle in the driveway that makes the pic at least 6 years old.

I don't know for sure. But based on anecdotal evidence I would say that they are not updated more than maybe once a year or so, maybe even less.

This is based on having looked at building sites (I have seen many where you see a house under construction, that was completed 2 or 3 years ago). And of course if you look at mountain regions you will see nothing of the seasons.

Recent photos are, of course, always available from satellite owners, but subscribing to up to date photos would be very expensive, and it seems that Google don't really care. And they're probably right, because for most applications I don't really care, either. And if they offered a "Google plus" service whereby I'd have to pay, say, 50 dollars a year and would have Google with nearly live photos, I'm not sure I would take it ;-)

hope this helps

The google picture of my house shows a pickup truck that I haven't owned in 5 years. I'm not sure they are updated unless a major construction project occurs.

Yes you are right. These images are not live. The reason is that if you want live pictures, you will have to pay something to the concerned organizations.

I think that these pics and maps are update regularly on mothly basis.
