When you consider that CHelsea paid £8 million for Gallas, then let him go to The Gunners for Cole plus £5 million, if you believe the estimates that Cole was worth approx £15 million, it would appear Arsenal have paid £20 million for an £8 million player last season. Hmmmm.

as an arsenal fan i am disappointed losing cole. i am glad that arsenal have gallas, but he is 29 and worth about 13-15 million and he is a great defender. i think chelsea have had the better deal with cole only 25 prob the best left back in the world, but i personally feel that cole made a bad decision and will struggle at chelsea. i think that players should be loyal to their clubs and arsenal are a top club, so there was no need to move. look what happened to owen, when he moved to real madrd so that he could win the champions league, but then l'pool won the champions league . vieira moved to juventus so that he could win the champions league, and then arsenal nearly won it. these are examples of why players should be loyal as long as the clubs are going up. bad luck ashley, u have ruined ur career, break a leg.

I think Chelsea have been done (not that they will care) because Gallas is one of the best centre backs in the world and can play left back/right back at a great standard. Chelsea already have a top left back in the terribly underated Wayne Bridge. Good deal for Arsenal i'd say. Chelsea will definetly miss Gallas and already have this season.

speak to any chelsea fan and they will tell you that gallas has been their best defender for the last 3 years running. And that's ahead of John Terry.

His problem is that he hates playing right or left back, where Jose played him quite a few times. He is basically great in any position in the back4.

The same cannot be said about Cole. He's a left back and that's it.

All that aside, I think this is a fair deal for both clubs. Arsenal have a world class centre back to replace sol cambell. He's french and so will know most of the team and therefore slot in really easily. And its great for Chelsea, as left back was the major weak link in their team.

All in all, a good deal for both sides.

Lets not talk financially. Look at it now, Chelski have only Boulahrouz, Terry and Carvalho as their centre backs. Huth ad Gallas is gone. Bridge is performing well the past few games and tt will definitely harm his morale and may still seek to join other clubs in the future. As for Arsenal, they could use Gallas anywhere. Im not entirely convinced tt Gallas will stay long at Arsenal. Same goes to Baptista.

I reckon Arsenal have come better off in this to be honest. Cole is just a left-back through and through, whereas Gallas is not only a proven left-back - 1st team left-back for the English champions in two consecutive seasons - but also a highly regarded centre-back.

I think so too but Cole obviously was wasted not playing and only Chelsea could have afforded him. Gallas is a good player and i hope mwe get the best out of him.

No great deal i think gallas is just as good as cole so Arsenal have got another 5mill to spend on someone except theyve got to wait till January now. It will be interesting seeing them play against each other now though

I think Arsenal have got slightly the better deal in this case. But where will Gallas play, and who will be Arsenal's left back?

Not me!
Best bit of business for Arsenal in years.
Cole was sitting on the shelf, and did not want to play, Arsenal needed a good central defender, I think its a great deal and also getting Baptista for Reyes.
