My generation is out of their mind.... Some of my friends kids names are what "they" call "unique" and what I call "ugly".... Taking parts of your name and parts of your wife/husband name and combining them is crap.... Trust me I grew up with a wierd name.... its not cool when teachers cant even pronounce your name......

My mom is a teacher and she tells me about the craziest names!
A few years ago she told me about 2 brothers named Lemonjello and Orangejello. Of course, their names were not pronounced Lemon Jell-O and Orange Jell-O, they had a sort of French sound to them. The names, I mean.
There was also a family who named their children One, Two, Three, Four and Five.
She says that this year there is a kindergartner named Semaj.
His father's name is JAMES --notice anything similar about the 2 names?
Recently i asked a friend of mine about her 3 yr old niece and I kept asking "How is Destiny doing?..." and when my friend asked *who?!* I realized I had said the wrong name! Her name is actually Serenity. I was sort of embarrassed but i just wanted to say, "Well, I knew it was some sort of word and not a real name, that's why I got confused!"
Ugh!

Times change. Think of some of the old names. Uriah, Jedediah, Zeke, Inez, Nesturtia. Would you hang one of those beauties on your progeny? No offense to anyone bearing those names but I bet if they could have picked their own they would have a different name now. You don't here of many Henrys or Dwights anymore either or Gertrudes or Eunices for that matter. Frank Zappa named his kids Dweezil and Moon unit. That's just cruel but he did make it easier for the descendants to make out their family tree. My own family had a penchant for Williams and Johns. try doing genealogy on that.
I think a little imagination without going off the deep end is a good thing as long as the parents use common sense. If you try to give your kid a fancy name like Stuyvesant the other kids are gonna call him Stinky. Mark my words. Also when you name your kids look at the initials. Don't shackle your offspring to A.S.S. or D.I.P. That's the kind of thing that will put a kid in therapy.

I have no idea why people do this. I actually some of them aren't too bad. Demi Moore's daughters name is Rumor, that's kinda cute. Names like Mercy, Destiny, Chastity, etc, have been around forever, but some are WAY out there. Don't these parents wonder what their kid is gonna be like as an adult? Can you imagine having a lawyer named Hopper Jack? Or a boss named Moon Unit. Come on! Okay, some of these names we can assume ( based on the celebrity parents) that they were most likely stoned when they thought them up....but really! I like having a classic name. Funny thing is, if this keeps up..."normal" names will become a rareity!

Are they really ugly or do you feel they are just 'different' from what you are used to. The world is becoming more and more globalized and you'll be seeing a lot of new trends emerge from outside your bubble. Names are just names, what it takes is a good role model to teach these kids what is right and what is wrong.

I agree. I hate some of these names. I'm going to give my son or daughter a good name. I don't mind names in different languages, but if your not from that country or you've never been then, you shouldn't be allowed to name your kid.

it is unbeliviable the mental names people are giving there kids, I blame celebrities, think of these children when they are older, Also It is either the very rich or council estate mum that give their children names of celebrities at the time you can age a kid by their weird name, how many elvis's were there, britneys, shakira, brooklyn, romeo, kylie's

Also I know a group of woman that were all pregnant at the same time and they named their kids Sky Blue, Mercedes Black, And wait for it pocahontes wtf!!! they are all at school together

They think they are clever and unique, it only makes the child get teased by having a silly name.

blame the celebrities...who else would want to name their kid "apple" or "coco" or "pilot" (just to have their middle name as "inspecktor" or "jermajisty"

my son's name is max. not many kids are name max anymore...but it's still around. and you can pronounce it.

and ummm...my name is just a common asian name. mai, pronounced "my", known as "mai tai" but people tend to call me "mia"........i wonder.....

Everyone wants to be special these days, and parents think giving their children a dumb name will make them instantly special. Instantly bullied more like it...
