Chances are its just somthing simple with the cable, either adjustment or replacement. Im guessing that other then not kicking into a gear you have noticed no problems, if this is the case, the cable is to loose, broken missing or just rusted. if you have noticed a slow take off or lag, in addition to the fact that you have no kickdown it would mean the oppisit, cable is to tight or its rusted.

Nimbus means the PTV cable. There is a procedure that must be followed. I think you will have to unlock the cable, hold the throttle all the way open (with the engine off of course), and the cable will auto-tension itsself, then release the throttle. Good luck.
