It looks like Jack and Michael are the most popular names for boys in western countries, while Emily is the most popular name for girls.

As for the most popular in the world--Considering China has like 20% of the world's population, I would guess the world's most popular names are found there. Also, with Muslims accounting for 15% of the world's population, and Mohammed such a popular name among them, I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the most popular name in the world.
