Wedding banquets can be expensive or not, depending on the place celebrated.
Then there are the simple church hall celebrations that can be fun and inexpensive.
If you are getting married in church, ask if they let people use their hall for wedding celebrations.
My cousin in Ohio had his wedding like that, the food was catered locally, the wonderful wedding cake was made by an aunt, the whole affair was simple, lovely and not expensive.
Offer your future in-laws alternatives...You should be able to come to an agreement!

If they are behind both of you as a couple and it makes them (and you and your fiance) happy, then don't sweat it. But if you feel like they are smothering you or trying to control your marriage before it begins, ALWAYS talk to you fiance and her family about it. Regret will kill you otherwise! Maybe they don't want to talk about the "sensitive" issue of money, but can kinda gather that you are poor and want to make sure that the day is super special for you both.
