they kill because they want the control. since they can control their victim's life and their death.
now that they are caught...they cannot control their death...and that's why they are more reluctant.

what ever the person, he always respects his own life more than that of otheres. so a man is always afraid to die. it is themost valued commodity of all as aptly proved by birbal. thats why the people who sacrifice their life are held in the highest esteem by the society. and thats the reason why murderers and serial killers are afraid to die. notonly them but everybody is afraid to die.
