WW2 happened because WW1 (a clash of empires) finished inconclusively. An empire on the rise (Germany) found itself defeated without being invaded - no wonder many Germans felt they had been betrayed. WW2 gave Germany the chance to rebuild its desired empire with "lebensraum" for its people. It also provided an opportunity for a nascent empire (Japan) to grow, and a crypto-empire (Italy) to try and yet fail dismally.

Firstly I would say shame on us human beings once again for not learning from the first ww!
It is such a complex subject to talk about, what events brought about the second world war; the repercussion from going to war, and who really won the war and more importantly did those men and women from both near and far who gave their lives for us so that the world would be a better place to live in, did they die in vain.
I feel that Q&A's is not the right platform to discuss this subject as it is not possible to cover every facet of this occurrence.
In yet another age of uncertainty and with the balance of power shifting at a seemingly dramatic pace, should we be surprised if once more tyranny has to be surpressed by going to war again.
Oh, I hope not for our children and their childrens sake and for the peoples of this world..

it is a shame that we must re-learn the lessons that war has taught us... like the horrors of an atomic blast. That you can't impose you religious views on others by force. That you can't solve your problem by killing an entire group/race of people.
WW3 is looming near us (or maybe it has already started), the question is how can we solve the problem that is causing the war without thousands or even millions of more people dying.
