I have been off the pill trying for a baby for 6 months with no luck so far.
Last month my period was 2 wks late, and during those 2 wks I had pains as if it was about to come, and it did.
This month I am now 1.5 weeks late, and I am feeling very nauseous (although I have not vomited), and my breasts are sore and tender and I am not having the "period pains" like last month.
However, I went to hospital a 3 wks ago (different issue), and they did a pregnancy test as they had to do x-rays. It was negative. I was more than half way through my cycle. I know it is possible to get pregnant after that, but I haven't had an implantation bleed like I did with my first child either.
I know I should do a pregnancy test, but it is easier for me and my bf if I just get my period, rather than suffering with another negative test. I just wanted to know if there is anyone out there who has been through anything similar or who could help on this issue. Please don't just tell me to take a test

Wife - I'm a size 10-12 - not my ideal weight, but I don't think I'm overweight in terms of problems concieving.
Also, I haven't been stressing about getting pregnant, just hoping really. The worst thing is the negative tests.
I have changed my diet slightly, but for the better, less fatty foods, cut out alcohol etc...

It is possible, but it depends on several things. If you are dieting ( trying to lose weight by restricting calories and exercising more than before) then menstruation can be affected. Also stress, worry too much over wanting to conceive can cause delay in periods and irregularity.
On a plus side, at size 10-12 you are not overly huge. A little extra weight can actually aid fertility. Extra weight only becomes a problem after conception if it is a lot of extra weight there can be increased chance of gestational diabetes and high blood pressure problems. Also larger women have an increased risk for having to have C-sections. If you are tryi ng to conceive do NOT go on a weight loss program. Exercise only moderately and increased body temperatures can affect fertility also.
Remember that unless the hospital ran a blood test, it is possible to get a false negative. Blood tests especially quantitative HCG (which tests not only the presence of pregnancy hormone but how much of it) are almost never false results.
Also remember that your fertile period is 14 days BEFORE your next period. This is why it is often difficult to determine fertile period unless you are one of the lucky women who experience pain with ovulation (mittelschmertz). So unless you are regular as clockwork and know the very day you should start, it is difficult to time when ovulation occurs. You can use an ovulation predictor test, they are fairly reliable.
If you are pregnant, seek medical help asap since you said you were exposed to X-ray at the hospital.
Good luck in your journey towards parenthood. I wish you a happy pregnancy with a healthy baby very soon!

The problem can be one of a few things.....are you overweight or maybe you went on a strict diet? Fear...maybe your life is a bit up side down...We do not realize what we do to our bodies with neglecting our health on both all above. I had the same and trust me I know what you going through only you can change it by changing and start living a normal healthy life. Our age also counts at times...................................

I kind of think you are looking to hard for signs that you are pregnant. I dint think this time is the time. I know when you are trying for a baby you desperately want it, so this is not easy, but try and forget about it and it will happen. All the best

My wife and I had a lot of surprises about pregnancies. If you have any doubts just go see your doctor or health care person.
