In the scheme of things is it possible that homosexuality has been put into place by nature to curb population explosions? Have any studies been made within biology that may suggest I am right? If I am right is homosexuality in direct proportion to the increase of population?

What amazes me is that when you take into account they do not "breed" in the true sense of the word. Then, where the f**k are they all coming from?

Homosexuality would normally increase with population as a proportionate increase.
However as with all things nature controls this anomaly by throwing in an 'F' factor of Aids.

This controls / checks the population explosion and reduces the numbers overall and in particular
Homosexuals.

It's reckoned to be, quite consistently, 10 or 11% of the population. And in the animal kingdom, in herd animals, the gay ones are often entrusted with protecting the young whilst the others gather food.
Rather than a fad, or a life-style choice, science has demonstrated the 'gay brain', a different wiring and architecture to heterosexuals. So, if we are all Gods' work, perhaps rampant zealots should appreciate their blasphemy when heaving cudgels at those who were born a little different to the most of us.
Peace.

Prison inmates who have sex with thier same sex is NOT homosexuality. It's called hetrosexual's who can't control thier urges. It's also about inforcing power over someone else. Basically if that is natural then I'm glad I'm a homosexual!

There have been studies on homosexuality in nature, mainly primates and within juvinile groups where we can expect the immediate social group to be same sex. However to assume it is because of the group being the same sex would be wrong. It is more likely part of the learning process similar to play fighting.

All mutation pontentials, whether they are "good" or not, increase with population size. Theoratically it is actually impossible for homosexuality to be supported by any evolution. Evolution only supports mutations that increase population birth and life. It is in fact an purely random mutation occurence that has nothing to do with evolution. This is because you cant pass down being gay to someone, get it? Evolution only works by reinforcing positive mutations. The term for negative evolution is called extinction.

If the majority of a given population is predominately one sex then yeah. Many prison inmates become homosexual in prison largely as a means to satisfy sexual urges then revert back to heterosexuality when they leave. They do this since heterosexual partners are most often not availible while under incarcaration. Animals are known for this kind of behavior too.

I saw a lot of studies banished until few years ago about Homossexual behavior within nature. It seems that exists in natural (and out of nature - Zoo) at many leves (primates, mammals) where there is no extraordianry population.

Usually, with more people around, its easier to see more homossexual couples. Another important social behavior is linked to the fact that big cities can guarantee more anonimous actions and usually society are less conservative.

With more niches and free from "morality chains" people can act freelly.

Big cities:
- More concentration then more different kind of groups;
- Less conservative environment;
- Guarantee anonimous actions;
- Small groups can build their own areas "somekind of guetos".

I believe that you are looking to the wrong way.

This is not how evolution works. While it could be in the "interest" of the ecosystem or of the species to reduce reproduction, it could never be in the "interest" of the gay gene to eliminate itself.

If you're looking for evolutionary explanations of homosexuality, you may think of:
- There could be a gene for turning other people of the same sex gay, thereby getting rid of a competitior.
- There could be a parasite, spreading by anal sex, that turned it's host gay.
- There could be a gene for pretenting to be gay, thereby avoiding agression from jealous competitors

Personally, I think that if there is a gene "for" homosexuality (which is far from certain), the explanation is that homophobic cultures force natural-born gays to live as heterosexuals, thereby allowing them te spread their "gay" genes.

If this theory is correct, homosexuality will eliminate itself as it becomes more tollerable since homosexuals will enjoy the freedom not to have sex with the opposite sex and therefore not to spread the gene for homosexuality.

If X% of the population is homosexual then purely on statistics if there is a population explosion then there will be more homosexuals.

I don't know of any research that explores this theory. I think it would be a hard thing to prove or disprove!
