I have 3 children ages 12,10 and 6 and I still lotion them up daily to stop dry skin.

I am curious but do you still apply lotion/suntan lotion on your children, if you have stopped, what age did you stop at?

You should stop lotioning up the 12 year old and probably the 10 year old. They should be able to do it themselves by now.

I stopped applying lotion regularly when they got old enough to run away from me after a bath...lol.....maybe age 2 or 3.
But if they had dry skin I would use it. At probably age 8 or 10 they can put their own lotion on....without making a mess (depends on the kids I guess.) Same as when they get old enough to start bathing themselves, I suppose.

I still help sometimes with sunscreen though. (ages 12-16.)

LOL your kids are old enough to put the lotion on themselves. You have the right idea-everyone should use lotion daily, however their mom should not be applying it for them-they need to learn to do things for themselves. I have four kids, 9, 10, 12 and 16 so I'm speaking from experience. Like you, I used to baby my kids but I realized It wasn't the best thing for them.

I think it's a good idea esp. if they are prone to dry skin problems. The 10 and 12 year old are old enough to put it on themselves. My 6 year old can do herself already (legs/arms/tummy etc). I only do the hard to reach spots.
