Because 2-3 minutes of dialog led to a 10 minute song.

Most complaints that I heard about the movie, was that there were far too many songs.

Personally I thought the conclusion was drawn out, this movie had worn out it's welcome by the middle, and could have been wrapped up.

I thought Mathew Broderick was very weak in this film, and although he is a good actor, and can be funny, this was not displayed in this film.

I would have liked this movie a whole lot more, if there had been no songs at all, until the Springtime for Hitler was put on.

Did it flop? I actually liked it better then the original. It was more of a broadway play and less of a Mel Brooks joke. Me and my husband just about peed our selves laughing and spent the next week singing the songs from it. I think that Will Farel was way better as the Nazi and I love the Gotten Tag Slap Slap.

It was a different movie and I don't think people were quit ready for it. I was really impressed at the job that Nathan Lane and Mathew Brodrick did. I plan to buy a copy.

I enjoyed this version - I bought the DVD.

I think, perhaps, it FOLLOWED TOO-CLOSELY the original 1968 format, with Matthew Broderick trying WAY TOO HARD to mimic Gene Wilder's portrayal of his character (I really felt that in Broderick's performance -- trying TOO HARD TO COPY GENE WILDER, which just doesn't work). NATHAN LANE IS GREAT !

I don't know how "much" of a "flop" this version was made out to be, but I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED IT !

We need more musicals ! GOOD ONES ! MTV is boring to me, and for another generation raised on garbage rap music.

Because the original 1968 version was much better and is still available on DVD.

Because there are still too many folks who remember the original version. Let em' die out...this was far too soon.
