First thing you should do is open the case, get a can of air, and blow out all the dust. Dust can really pile up in a computer, and slow down the fan (which is really bad.)
If you feel comfortable doing it, get a small vacuum attactment, hook it to your vacuum, and suck out the now-loose dust. Be very careful not to bump anything in the computer.
Make sure your computer is not in a dust-friendly area. Try to have you computer off of the floor. In fact, the higher the computer, the less dusty it will get inside. Dust clogs up the fan, causing heat. Heat the #1 killer of computers; hammers are #2.
As stated above, it could be a problem with the fan, but try giving it a good cleaning first, before you commit to buying any parts.

The computer might be hot. Keep it in an air conditioned room and don't leave it on all the time. Turn it off when you go to sleep. It has happened to me too.
