It depends. For those from Taiwan and Hong Kong, they may do both, depending on their budget. But it does not necessarily mean that those short of money will go for B&B because their local travel agencies are very competitive, they can offer very competitive rates for a package including hotel and transports and then bring these Chinese travellers (or should I say tourists?) to shops which offer the agencies commissions upon their consumption. These agencies will try to keep them out of the hotel for most of the day (for sightseeing and shopping) presumably because the hotel rooms are at cut-throat rates and one of the conditions is to keep them away from the hotel save for sleeping!!
For those from the mainland China, I heard that it was not easy for them to travel by themselves so they tend to join a group tour through a travel agency and stay in a hotel.

As yet the Chinese traveler is very insecure and shy, so I don't think they'll go for B&B's. Most of them travel in groups, anyhow.
This will slowly change, of course, but don't count on it being soon.

large hotel, they never travel in single.
so always with big groups, u might get a single traveler but they are backpacker normaly with small budget.

just guessing id say theyd like big hotels. they like being with each other and yakking and making lots of ooohs and awws at
the scenery.
