She was an army doctor, Dr Mary Walker. The Army nominated Walker for the Medal of Honor for her wartime service. President Andrew Johnson signed the citation on Nov. 11, 1865, and she received the award on Jan. 24, 1866. Her citation cites her wartime service, but not specifically valor in combat.

The only female Medal of Honor awardee was Mary Edwards Walker, a Civil War surgeon. Her medal was rescinded in 1917 along with many other non-combat awards. It was restored by President Jimmy Carter in 1977.[45]

No woman has ever been awarded the Medal of Honor. She did not earn the medal for valor as is required and it was properly rescinded in 1917 and mistakenly reinstated by the incompetent bungler Jimmy Carter to curry favor with feminist. The actions of Dr. Walker were valuable and even heroic, but to raise them to the level of the Medal of Honor is ludicrious.
