Having to choose between sponge or fingers I'd say the sponge but I must say that sponges absorb a lot of foundation. As a makeup artist I prefer a foundation brush.

I use fingers to put on liquid foundation because I feel lighter this way and the foundation wont be wasted (absorbed by the sponge). I do believe sponge is more for a hygiene purpose (dont need to remember to wash your hands before putting on the foundation).
Now some of the brands have brushes to put the foundation on as well, I haven't tried myself.

Apply your foundation with a sponge at first working it in with your fingers for an even flawless look.

I like with a small makeup wedge sponge. It's easy to go around your eyes, and you don't get the mess all over your fingers. I read somewhere though that using your fingers is supposed to give you more even coverage for some reason. I personally prefer a wedge sponge.

The best way to apply foundation is with a foundation brush, if you use your fingers it stimulates your blood vessels and gives you a false colour, a sponge absorbs alot of your product and therefore you waste alot of it. Get your self a good foundation brush and apply working downwards and remember that if you use foundation everyday to wash your brush weekly to keep it in good condition.

I use a sponge, it is cleaner that way and the sponge retains more of the foundation so that I don't have to keep putting more on my fingers.

a sponge because it evens it out. And it looks professionally done. I even learned that in Drama classes. As we had to put foundation on. Gee I hated it too...but now with the sponge and better makeup I don't mind at all.

Depends on the type and texture of the foundation. I usually put tinted moisturizer on with my fingers, I wash my hands first though! A little heavier foundation is better patted on and then blended with a damp sponge. A lot of professionals use brushes, but you don't really need one, I don't have the patience for them anyway :)

The best way to apply foundation is with a damp makeup sponge. You get a more even coverage. Your fingertips have oil on them which will put oil onto your face. Hope this helps!!!
