I love the In Death Series by J. D. Robb (aka. Nora Roberts). Like the Dan Brown books that you mentioned, you can't stop reading them. There are probably about 15 of them now. It takes place in the future some and they are a mixture of thriller and romance. A few of the titles are: Judgment In Death, Naked In Death, Reunion In Death etc. If you go to Nora Roberts website there is a list of all of them.

The Hot Zone would be perfect for you. I swear it! It's all about the ebola virus n stuff, and it's all trur stuff in it. Then read "The Cobra Event" by the same author. I forgot his name, but he's a doctor who had never written fiction before "The Cobra Event" and even so, based the entire book on stuff that could actually happen based on facts that he knows are true. It's eventfull, and you won't be able to put these books down. I don't really read much, and I swear I couldn't stop with these.

Here's another vote for Anne Rice, especially the Vampire Chronicles (my personal favorite, Memnoch the Devil) Even if you're a Christian, you will find her views stimulating and easy to believe. Also, Gregory McGuire is an astounding author, I've read his collection as well. Though his requires a bit of sludge you must step through to thoroughly enjoy his work, but it pays off in the end and you feel smart after you read it. If you're willing to get a bit old school, Lord of the Rings is still, a beautiful trilogy.

Phil Rickman's Merrily Watkins series (the first book is The Wine of Angels). Fast-paced, various religious ideas thrown around, mystery, suspense--and in my opinion, a level of writing that blows Dan Brown out of the water.

The Chatham School Affair by Thomas H. Cook!
The libary classified it as crime fiction. But I disagree. It is a love story. The crime could only refer to the ''forbidden love'' between Miss Channing and Mr Reed. I am rebuked. LOVE CAN EXIST IN ALL CONDITIONS AND HAS NO LIMITS OR BOUNDARIES. I also learnt the cruelty of life--the short life of Sarah Doyle.
The narrator( Henry) loves Sarah and the author also gave hints that Sarah also loves him back. However, their love did not have the chance to blossom.
Miss Channing and Mr Reed( already married) also love each other a lot. However in the end it came to nothing wonderful but caused the deaths of Sarah Doyle and Mrs Reed, and the shattered life of Mary Reed( the daughter).
IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO DO IT. LOVE IS NEVER WRONG.

I think you will like the Rule Of Four by Ian Caldwell and his other partner. It's really a wonderful book.A story of great friendship and mysteries and there are some words that you can form when you analyzed the story very well. There are some hidden words.
